Learn the importance of agronomic crops, weeds, seeds, and insects!

The purpose of this event is to create interest and promote understanding in agronomy by providing opportunities for recognition through the demonstration of skills and proficiencies. Students are expected to be able to identify agronomic crops, seeds, insects, diseases, etc. and demonstrate their understanding by developing a crop management plan and an integrated pest management plan. The contest includes a written exam, a team event, and a practicum exercise.

    Students should be able to:

    1. 1) To demonstrate basic knowledge of agronomic sciences
    2. 2) To explore career opportunities skills and proficiencies in the agronomy industry
    3. 3) To determine the ability to identify agronomic:
    • Crops
    • Weeds
    • Seeds
    • Insects
    • Diseases
    • Plant Nutrient Deficiencies
    • Plant Disorders
    • Crop Grading and Pricing
    1. 4) To evaluate a scenario and develop a crop management plan including crop selection, production and marketing.
    2. 5) To demonstrate understanding of sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship through the use of Integrated Pest Management and Best Management Practices.

    The team shall consist of four members with every member's score counting towards the team total. Participants are not allowed to handle any of the items in the identification practicum. The event will include a team activity, and individual activities such as a general knowledge exam and the annual practicum for that year. All other National FFA Rules apply. It is highly recommended that team members where a state or chapter FFA t-shirt at the state competition.
